Poker Playing Tips
Playing poker is all about figuring out what other players have in their hand and not letting on if you have a good or bad hand. Although other players cannot see your hand.. the way you react can give them a lot of insite to what you have. How does this apply in online poker when no-one can see each other?
Well firstly, lets take for instance poker played in casinos. A player is dealt a good hand so the chances are he or she will look at the cards and smile, constantly look at his or her own cards or even raise eyebrows.. enough to tell the other players that you have a good hand. In online poker you can do the same mistake.. by placing a huge bet. If you always double the stakes when you have a nice hand it will soon be noted by other players. Take you time and don’t act too quickly. The chances are that good players will notice this and will probably fold, which means that your good hand will win you very little money.
Develop a betting strategy which will maximize your winnings and minimize your losses. Its important that other players can’t predict your hand so vary your betting strategy. Always watch and see who the loose players are and who the tight players are. Take your time.. check on how the betting has gone and what your opponents might have. Remember, the most successful poker players are those who are unpredictable.
One of the biggest mistakes that a beginner can make is staying in the game every time they have an Ace in their hand. Aces are the highest card, but an ace alone cannot give you a winning hand. High card is the lowest possible winning hand combination. It is good to stay in the game if you have another card of the same suit or a 10 or higher with the Ace.
What do you do before the flop? Stay with any pair, consecutive cards of the same suit, such as 7, 6 or 5, 4 and fairly high cards of the same suit, such as J, 9. If you think the community cards are not helping you after the flop then fold.
Be aware of everyone's chip count. Remember in no-limit games players can bet all of their chips at any time. So, a mistake can knock you out. Keep notes on yourself and also on other players who you play frequently. You can go through the notes and work out a strategy against each player.
